Mark Schroeder is a registered patent attorney and partner with the intellectual property law firm of Seager Tufte Wickhem. He is based in the firm’s San Clemente, California office.

Mark has worked in both private practice and as in-house counsel on patent matters involving medical devices including circuitry, overall design, biological signal analysis and therapeutic methods, as well as wireless communication systems, optical systems, and a variety of other technologies. Mark has particular expertise drafting patent applications involving highly complex analytical methods.

Mark also has experience evaluating intellectual property portfolios and providing advice and FTO opinions. FTO or “right to use” investigations are critical to insure that your product does not infringe on the rights of others.

From 2001-2007, Mark was an associate in our firm. In 2007, a client, Cameron Health, asked him to serve as in-house intellectual property counsel.

While with Cameron Health, Mark built the company’s patent portfolio to more than 100 US patents, while also supporting various regulatory and legal functions. Mark supported the company during fundraising and due diligence until its final sale in 2012 to Boston Scientific Corporation. Boston Scientific retained Mark after the acquisition until he rejoined our firm in 2014. With this background, Mark is mindful of the different needs of both small and large companies.

Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Mark received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School. He received a B.A. in Mathematics and Spanish, summa cum laude, from Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota), and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, with distinction, from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology. Mark is licensed to practice in both California (2013) and Minnesota (2000).

Mark is a co-inventor on several patents related to cardiac signal analysis in implantable medical devices.
